To date, the Asian Penguins have given over 200 computers to area families!
The Asian Penguins seek to live out these words and change their world through technology. The Asian Penguins are unique computer club. In fact, they are the first and only Linux users group based in a Hmong charter school. They use Linux and other open source software as our main computing platform--for fun, for school, and for helping others. What is Linux? Linux is a computer operating system. This is the set of programs that actually runs your computer. Operating systems you may have heard of are Microsoft Windows or Apple OSX. What makes Linux special is that it is open source. This means that the operating system and the programs are available free of charge, and users are free to use, distribute, and change the programs in any way they wish.
What do the Asian Penguins do?
The Asian Penguins take their knowledge of software to recycle used computers, which they donate to needy families in our school community. To date, the Asian Penguins have given 44 computers to area families!
So, how do you change the world? As we say at the beginning of every Asian Penguins meeting: “Be crazy enough to think you can!”
